Best Time to Elope in Yosemite National Park

Elopement

So you made the choice to elope in Yosemite National Park, one of the most iconic national parks in the United States. From the grand views of Taft Point and El Capitan Meadow to the quiet serenity of the surround forests in Mariposa Grove, Yosemite is a popular elopement site for a reason. The first step is choosing which season you want to get married in.

SPRING IN YOSEMITE: SNOW.

There will be beautiful coats of snow covering the entire park in the late winter/ early spring. Specific February dates require reservations into the park where sunlight beams perfectly through the waterfalls. There is a beautiful chapel you can get married in if the meadows are too snowy and cold. The bummer is some trails are closed or under construction during this time. Be sure to research before!

SUMMER IN YOSEMITE: STUNNING.

This is one of the most incredible times in this magical land. The grass is so healthy and green, the fields are covered in new flowers, and the wildlife is out exploring the trails. This time of year, the waterfalls are not flowing usually as they are dried up during this season. Beautiful, sunny days in Yosemite’s summer make for the perfect location to say your vows. Most trails are open and easy to drive to, the only hurdle might be traffic from all of the tourists.

FALL IN YOSEMITE: BRIGHT LEAVES.

Yosemite’s grand trees change with the fall temperatures and create a gorgeous yellow and orange landscape. If you are lucky in weather and timing, you can have the stunning foliage and some of the iconic trails and points before they close down for the winter.

WINTER IN YOSEMITE: INVITING.

Early winter right after the fall leaves are gone, tourists are sparse, and temperatures are still warmer is a great time to elope. The downsides include some of the trails and access roads being closed to the iconic spots like Taft Point and Mariposa Road. Some of the fields and foliage are also dead during this time, so this might be obvious in some photos. Despite these cons, the sun still shines and the park is a quieter scene for your elopement ceremony and photos.

Tips for a Successful Elopement Experience

Standing as one of my favorite places to photograph elopements, I have found some favorite locations for photos and memorable ceremonies. This iconic park is open 365 days a year and offers a vast landscape of possibilities for your elopement. Make sure you do your research in permits and reservations for your ceremony. A mail in request and $150 is required to get a ceremony permit. Your party and photographer need America the Beautiful passes or day passes to enter the park. Be prepared for tourists at every time of the year and respectfully share the space. There’s no harm in politely asking for a quick few photos in some busy points, but make sure to bake in extra time in your day to allow for a stress free experience!!
